Malaysia's Ruling Party Disappointed Over Rejection of Najib's Appeal
jpnn.com, MALAYSIA - The supreme council of the United Malaysia National Organization (UMNO) has regretted the decision of the court rejecting the appeal of the former prime minister and former party president, Najib Razak.
In a statement signed by the Secretary General of UMNO, Ahmad Maslan, on Friday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob hoped that Najib Razak would be brought to justice if the case was brought to the federal court.
"The supreme council made several decisions in the meeting. Among these was to express disappointment in the decision for Najib's appeal," the statement said.
Ahmad said many parties believed that the court case, which involved several figures accused after the last general election, was politically motivated.
He said the supreme council hoped that Najib's appeal at the federal court would be tried carefully in the future.
"Umno believes that the judiciary system has to always uphold the highest principles of justice," the statement added. (ant/dil/mcr20/jpnn)
