jpnn.com, PARIS - Indonesian men's singles badminton player Shesar Hiren Rhustavito will face a tough test in the quarter finals of the 2021 French Open when he challenges Japanese first seed Kento Momota.
Based on the BWF rankings, Momota is clearly above Vito.

The Japanese single is still the world's number one player, while Vito has not moved from the world's 20th ranking.
However, Momota's performance during the 2021 French Open has not been as supreme as his status.

In the first round, Momota was almost eliminated by India's representative Kidambi Srikanth.
Facing the world's 15th ranked badminton player, Momota faced difficulties and had to win the match through a rubber game battle with a score of 21-18, 20-22, and 21-19.

Srikanth forced Momota to end the match within 1 hour and 19 minutes, according to BWF records.
In the top 16, Momota once again had to finish the match for more than 60 minutes, to be precise 1 hour and 6 minutes.
The opponent he faced was the world's 12th ranked player from Denmark, Rasmus Gemke.
Momota won straight games but with a narrow advantage, scoring 21-19 and 21-18.
Vito, on the other hand, has the advantage of having fresher stamina as he overcame Sameer Verma in the top 16 in just 32 minutes. The Indian single chose to withdraw in the third game.
In the first round, Vito appeared confident when he beat Canadian representative Briyan Yang with a score of 21-16 and 21-17 in just 35 minutes.
In the two matches, Vito took approximately 1 hour in total, in contrast to Momota who spent 2 hours.
This means Vito has a slight advantage in terms of fitness.
If he can take advantage of that, it is not impossible that he will make a surprise by defeating Momota to go to the semifinals. (bwf/mcr15/mcr20/jpnn)
