jpnn.com, JAKARTA SELATAN - Two victims died in a TransJakarta bus collision on Jalan MT Haryono, Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Monday (25/10).

Some 37 others suffered serious and minor injuries.

The two casualties were the driver and a passenger, who were declared dead at the Kramat Jati Hospital, East Jakarta.

Jakarta Police traffic director Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the incident occurred around 8.45 a.m.

He said that at that time, a TransJakarta bus stopped to pick up and drop off passengers at the bus stop. Suddenly, another TransJakarta bus hit it from behind.

"The vehicle hit from behind was pushed quite far for about 15 meters," said Sambodo.

He suspected that the driver who was driving the second bus did not appear to have made any effort to brake. But police are investigating the incident further.

"We will see if there was a human error - the driver could be sleepy or daydreaming. It could also be an error of the vehicle, or brake failure," said Sambodo.

Jakarta Police spokesman Senior Adjutant Commissioner Argo Wiyono said that of the 37 people injured, six were being treated at the Budi Asih Hospital. (cr3/mcr20/jpnn)
