jpnn.com, TANGERANG - A resident found an active grenade while fishing around the Lugano Citra Raya housing development project, Panongan district, Tangerang regency, Banten, Tuesday.

The Gegana Mobile Brigade Team of the Banten Police that received the information immediately evacuated the grenade.

Panongan Police chief Adjutant Commissioner Gesit Febriyatmoko said that the active grenade was found by Nana, a resident from Ciakar, Panongan district, while fishing in a former rice field around the housing project.

"At around 11.30 a.m., when taking out the gutter, the witness saw an object that was suspected to resemble a pineapple grenade. Then, the witness immediately reported it to the housing project security, who then reported to the Panongan Police," he said in Tangerang.

An hour later, he continued, the local police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel immediately checked and sterilized the scene where the grenade was found.

"After checking the location, we reported it to the Banten Police's Gegana Detachment Unit," said Gesit.

He said that from the results of an examination conducted by the detachment unit, it was known that the pineapple-like grenade was still active.

Thus, the detachment unit immediately exploded it at the location.

"At around 14.06 p.m., the Banten Police Gegana Team carried out the disposal or detonation of the active pineapple grenade," he said. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
