Blinken Visits Luhut to Discuss Strategic Partnerships

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has received a visit from United States Foreign Minister Antony Blinken.

Luhut and the Joe Biden's right hand man discussed six strategic partnerships in the fields of health, investment, trade, infrastructure, climate change, and digital transformation.

"I said to Mr. Blinken that Indonesia today was changing and moving so quickly to take advantage of the potential we had," Luhut wrote on his personal Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan, Tuesday (14/12).

Luhut also said that Indonesia wanted to be part of the global supply chain in the downstream sector of natural resources.

"I also invited them to join this value-adding project," he said.

In addition, Indonesia invited the US to cooperate in infrastructure and economic recovery.

Blinken, according to Luhut, showed a strong commitment to establish partnerships with Indonesia, especially in environmental conservation. Luhut emphasized that Indonesia always maintained its commitment to the Paris Agreement and net zero emissions.

Some climate-change related policies in Indonesia include restoration of mangroves and peatlands, as well as energy transition from fossil fuels to new and renewable energy.

Luhut believed that with economic transformation efforts that focused on developing value-added industries, Indonesia would grow stronger after the pandemic.
