jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) said it was disappointed with Indonesia's decision to withdraw from the 2021 BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain, December 12-19.
Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) announced on Wednesday (8/12) that the national team had withdrawn from participating in the World Championships due to health concerns.

In the BWF's official website, the Malaysia-based parent organization said a small number of Indonesian players remained in the draw.
"BWF is disappointed with the decision by PBSI and regret that the withdrawal took place after the draw," it stated.

"However, BWF and the Spanish Badminton Federation are now focused on delivering a safe and successful World Championships in line with the advice and measures put in place by the local and national health authorities, including a comprehensive set of safety protocols for all players, team officials and key stakeholders."
In addition to Indonesian players, Japan's defending champion Kento Momota had also withdrawn from the 2021 World Championships, BWF confirmed.

The world number two player is currently recovering from a back injury he suffered during the 2021 French Open.
