One Family in Lembata Poisoned After Eating Pufferfish, Two Die

jpnn.com, NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR - One family in Tagawiti village, Ile Ape district, Lembata regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), was poisoned after consuming pufferfish, Thursday (16/12).

As a result, the husband and wife, Bedil Pureklolon (60) and Maria Barek (60), died.

Meanwhile, three other people were rushed to the Lewoleba Hospital for intensive treatment.

"The family ate pufferfish, before getting symptoms. The husband and wife died, while three other people are now being treated in the ER," said a family member, Hermanto Dalot.

According to Hermanto, the family ate the pufferfish as a side dish during lunch time.

The head of the Waipukang Health Center in Ile Ape district, Margaretha Ose Making, confirmed the incident.

Margaretha said the five victims were first taken to the health center but were eventually referred to the Lewoleba Hospital.

Lewoleba Hospital director Bernardus Yoseph Beda said on Thursday (16/12) that there were actually eight people who ate the pufferfish.
