Five West Lombok Residents Killed in Flash Flood

english.jpnn.com, LOMBOK BARAT - At least five residents of North Batulayar hamlet, West Batulayar village, Batulayar district, West Lombok, were reported dead due to a flash flood on Monday (6/12).

Batulayar district head Afgan Kusumanegara mentioned that the victims included Sumiahana (35), Ladenia aged 6 months, Sumiati (40), and Papuk Temah (65). Meanwhile, H Suri (65) was reported missing but later was found dead by authorities.

Another person, Hj Salemah, suffered injuries and a broken leg, he added.

"There are those who were swept away, hit by a tree, and crushed by a house. Those who are missing are still being searched," Afgan said.

According to Afgan, there were 150 households affected by the flash flood in North Batulayar hamlet.

"Data on infrastructure damage is still being collected," he said.

After conducting a long search since Monday, the evacuation team finally found the body of H Suri on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was found 50 meters from her house under a pile of wood and a tin roof.

When she was found, the house of the victim had been razed to the ground because of the heavy flash flood.

Before she died, the victim had time to save his cattle, but because of the strong current, she was dragged into the flood. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
