25 Tracker Dogs Deployed to Repel 212 Reunion Mass

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Jakarta Police mobilized Detachment K-9 to dispel the 212 reunion mass on Thursday (2/12).

Head of the K9 Unit, First Inspector Vin Suhartanto, said the detachment deployed 25 sniffer dogs to help secure the event.

They were also tasked with dispelling the crowd during riots.

"There are 25 dogs deployed today. These sniffer dogs are indeed to deter crowds or to prevent riots," said Vin at the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, Thursday.

Vin explained that out of the 25 dogs, four of them were on guard at the red light intersection of Jalan Merdeka Selatan or the Horse Statue roundabout.

The four dogs are of Dutch Shepherd, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, and Labrador breeds.

According to him, other K-9 dogs were on standby in the DPR/MPR building, near the US Embassy, and the Gambir Station.

In addition to guarding those areas, the K-9 dogs were also deployed to track explosives and drugs.

A total of 4,218 joint personnel from the military, the police, and the Jakarta administration were on standby.

The police have closed the road to the Horse Statue roundabout and the National Monument (Monas) starting at midnight.

Jakarta Police traffic director Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the road closures would take effect until Thursday at 9 p.m. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
