Balikpapan Student, Ex-Boyfriend Scam Hundreds of Victims Online

jpnn.com, BALIKPAPAN - The boyfriend of a female student identified with the initials PN (19), who scammed hundreds of victims through fraudulent investments on social media, allegedly involved in her lover's dark business. 

Previously, the Balikpapan Police in East Kalimantan uncovered cases from which PN had allegedly collected billions of rupiah involving 220 victims.

Recently, the Balikpapan Police named a new suspect in the fraudulent investment case.

Balikpapan Police criminal investigation unit head Commissioner Rengga Puspo Saputro said the new suspect in the case was a former boyfriend of PN, namely AJ (20). He allegedly helped the fraud committed by the female student at a private university in Balikpapan.

"AJ is the ex-boyfriend of the main perpetrator of this online scam. He was subject to Article 55 of the Criminal Code for participating," said Rengga, Sunday (28/11).

Initially, AJ was a witness.

Since the cases were uncovered, he left home and the Balikpapan Police put him in the wanted list.

"After investigation, it was finally discovered that AJ was with a family member. The team then arrested him on Monday, November 22, 2021," said Rengga.

Now, both AJ and PN are behind the bars.

In their action, AJ and PN scammed the victims by offering investment with a 75 percent return within one month.

To facilitate coordination, three WhatsApp groups were created, with the number of group members reaching 70 to 250 each.
