During the rally, some protesters allegedly beat a police member, namely Senior Adjutant Commissioner Dermawan Karosekali.

Jakarta Police traffic director Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the incident began when Dermawan, who is the head of the operations at the Jakarta Police traffic directorate, was on guard during the demonstration.
"Dermawan was very persuasive. They blocked the road, and we persuaded them not to," said Sambodo. "However, when provoked, they finally beat the person concerned."

As a result, Dermawan was sent to the Kramat Jati Hospital in East Jakarta to undergo intensive treatment.
"An examination found several hematoma wounds due to severe blunt trauma all over his body, especially in the head. There were also torn wounds in the abdomen," said Sambodo. (cr1/mcr20/jpnn)
