Pertamina Tries to Extinguish Fire in Cilacap Refinery

jpnn.com, CILACAP - The corporate secretary of subholding refining & petrochemical at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, Ifki Sukarya, stated that the company had been trying to extinguish the fire in the Cilacap refinery area.

"Currently, the Pertamina fire brigade team is trying its best to extinguish the fire in the tank area," Ifki said in a statement received on Saturday (13/11) evening.

Ifki said that Pertamina was also checking in with community members around the area to ensure they were safe.

"We will immediately update the progress of the fire fighting," he said.

Previously, Pertamina's tank located in the Cilacap refinery area caught fire.

"It is estimated that the incident occurred at 7.30 p.m., but the cause of the fire is not yet known," said Ifki.

Central Java Police spokesman Senior Commissioner M. Iqbal Alqudusy confirmed the incident.

"It is confirmed that Pertamina's oil refinery has caught fire. Currently, we're still trying to extinguish it," Iqbal told JPNN.com. (mcr10/mcr20/jpnn)
