jpnn.com, KETAPANG - A nine grader at a public junior high school in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, reportedly gave birth in the school toilet.
The head of the Ketapang Education Agency, Jahilin, said the incident took place on October 22, 2021.

The student was still allowed to take the final school exam considering that she had been registered in the system.
"The incident is true, there is indeed a junior high school student in Ketapang who gave birth in the school toilet during class hours," said Jahilin when met in his office, Tuesday (26/10).

"The student was handled by the school and was taken to a midwife in Ketapang. On the same day, the student was picked up by her parents and her prospective husband," he said.
Jahilin said the students had not attended school for two years prior to the incident.

"After two years, she suddenly came back and to nobody's understanding, she was pregnant. The student also did not report to the school," he continued.
Jahilin said that he was quite concerned about this incident because in Ketapang, there was more online classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic so that students' daily activities were mostly not monitored by teachers at school.
"Hopefully, this incident will serve as a lesson and a whip for all of us, so no more children drop out of school because they become pregnant or are forced to get married," he said. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
