jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Health Ministry has detected more cases of Omicron in Indonesia, turning the total number to eight so far.
Three cases of Omicron were detected after international travelers returned from Congo and Malaysia.

All three were Indonesian migrant workers, who are currently in quarantine at the Wisma Atlet Covid-19 emergency hospital.
The results of the whole genome sequencing (WGS) examination came out on Wednesday (22/12) evening.

Covid-19 caccination spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi confirmed that all Omicron cases in Indonesia were imported from other countries.
"All cases were detected when they were in quarantine, so we can contain them and prevent them from spreading out," said Nadia in her statement, Thursday (23/12).

Nadia said the Health Ministry would strengthen surveillance and increase WGS examinations, especially for international travelers who are Covid-19 positive.
"This is to detect cases early so that quarantine and medical treatment for any symptomatic cases can be carried out immediately," she said.
Nadia appealed to the public to postpone non-urgent international travel to reduce the spread of Omicron. (mcr9/mcr20/jpnn)
