Sri Mulyani: Government Is Alert About Omicron Mutations

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said that the government stays alert about Omicron, a variant of Covid-19 originating from South Africa, which is feared to destabilize Indonesia's recovery.

Omicron has now spread to several countries in both western and Asian countries.

"We are very vigilant and observing what is happening in various parts of the world, including the increasing cases or mutations of Omicron," said Sri at the 2nd International Convention on Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas, Tuesday (30/11).

Sri Mulyani admitted that she was still optimistic that the national recovery would continue to accelerate as Indonesia had successfully passed two peaks of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Indonesia experienced two peaks of Covid-19 that occurred in 2021. One was a result of a long holiday, and the other was a result of the emergence of the Delta variant.

Sri assessed that Indonesia's passing the peaks of Covid-19 was an achievement in itself.

"It's considering that until now there are still several countries that are trying to get out of the peak," said the minister.

Sri hoped that the government's vigilance would be able to bring the Indonesian economy into growth of 3.5 percent to 4 percent this year.

On the other hand, Sri ensured that the government's fiscal would continue to support economic recovery until next year.
