To prevent the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak, local authorities have taken preventive and control measures, according to local media.

The authorities in the provincial capital of Gansu warned residents not to leave the city unless there was an urgent need.

When leaving the city, they must be able to show a health card and a Covid-19 test result to prove they have been free from the virus in the last 48 hours.

Private company employees and government agency staff at all levels in Lanzhou must report if they leave the city, which is surrounded by the Gobi Desert.

Residents were strongly discouraged from attending meetings that involve large crowds.

The mahjong game arenas, which usually involve the elderly, public bathrooms, karaoke, bars and other public places, were temporarily closed.

Shows, exhibitions, and mass activities were also cancelled.

Tourist attractions were completely closed, while tour packages were temporarily suspended.

Underground metro trains, buses, and other public transportation were instructed to increase the frequency of departures so as not to cause passenger congestion, and all modes of transportation must be disinfected. Passengers were required to wear masks and windows of public transportation must be opened.

The Lanzhou cases have caused concern in some areas. In Fengtai district, Beijing, there were reportedly local residents who tested positive for Covid-19 after traveling from Lanzhou by train. (ant/dil/mcr20/jpnn)
