NTT Earthquake Leaves Over 500 Houses Damaged in South Sulawesi

english.jpnn.com, SULAWESI SELATAN - The impact of a 7.4-magnitude earthquake in the Flores Sea, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), last Tuesday (14/12) had a tremendous impact on the lives of people in the Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi.

A total of 504 houses were damaged, and seven people were injured.

"Based on the latest information, there have been three people with minor injuries and two with serious injuries in Pasilambena district, as well as two with minor injuries in Pasimarannu district," said Selayar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Ahmad Ansar, Wednesday (15/12).

Temporary data collected showed that 46 houses were heavily damaged in Pasilambena and 232 houses in Pasimarannu. The rest were slightly damaged.

Data from Garopa and Garopa Raya villages had not come in because communication had been cut off due to the earthquake.

BPBD Selayar reported that Pasilambena and Pasimarannu were two most severely affected districts because they were located closest to the epicenter.

The number of affected households in Pasimarannu was 3,353, while Pasilambena recorded as many as 2,158 families.

Previously, South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman said the earthquake affected four districts, which were Takabonerate, Pasilambena, Pasimarannu, and Passimasunggu.

Andi said he had instructed immediate establishment of public kitchens to meet the food and logistical needs of the affected communities. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
