3 Found Dead, 4 Missing After Car Falls into Canyon in North Sumatra

jpnn.com, SUMATERA UTARA - A joint search and rescue (SAR) team is still looking for missing victims of a car that fell into a canyon in Sitellu Tali Urang Jahe district, Pakpak Bharat regency, North Sumatra.

So far, three victims in this deadly incident have been evacuated, while the other four victims have not been found.

The last victim evacuated was Fitri Elfirati (26), a resident of Padang Panyang village, Nagan Raya regency, Aceh.

"The victim was found on Tuesday afternoon around the Kedabuhan waterfall," said Medan SAR Office spokesman Sariman Sitorus, Wednesday (15/12).

The difficulty of accessing the place where Fitri's body was found made authorities unable to evacuate the victim until around 7 p.m. The victim's body was then taken to the Subulussalam Hospital, Aceh.

Sariman said authorities had identified a body that was previously found at the same location. It turned to be Arman Yusuf (50), the driver of the car.

Four other passengers who have not been found are Amri Lubis, Tata Agusnianti, Sudarseh, and Masdi.

The incident occurred on Sunday (12/12) at around 3 p.m. on the border between North Sumatra and Aceh.

The car driven by Arman departed from Subulussalam to Medan with six passengers.

Authorities suspected that on the way, Arman was sleepy, so the car swerved to the right and plunged into a canyon. (mcr22/mcr20/jpnn)
