english.jpnn.com, MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution has apologized to his residents after floods hit a number of areas in the city and submerged hundreds of houses.
He said that the floods were caused by overflowing rivers and drainages that were unable to accommodate the water discharge when heavy rain hit Medan.

Some residents had to be evacuated to the highlands because the water level continued to rise until early Wednesday (24/11).
"As the Mayor of Medan, I apologize to all residents for the flood problems that occurred in a number of areas in Medan City," Bobby said via his social media.

Bobby is currently on a work trip to Jakarta.
The President Joko Widodo's son-in-law said the city administration would continue to improve flood management.

"Currently, the Medan administration is trying to fix all the drainages so that puddles can be overcome and Medan is completely free from flooding," he said.
He also asked the community to collaborate with government officials in tackling the issue.
According to the Medan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), there were 352 residents affected by the floods.
Extreme weather with high rain intensity has occurred since Tuesday (23/11) evening.
Floods submerged two villages and several neighborhood units across two sub-districts.
In Sunggal district, there were at least 282 houses affected. In Medan Tuntungan district, 70 houses were flooded.
As of Wednesday morning, the flood water had begun to recede. Evacuees have also begun to return to their respective homes. (mcr22/mcr20/jpnn)
