Court Increases Former Minister Edhy Prabowo's Sentence

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Jakarta High Court has increased the sentence against former Maritime Affairs and Fisheries minister Edhy Prabowo.

The panel of judges also rejected the appeal submitted by Edhy's legal advisor team, sentencing the defendant with a prison term of 9 years and a fine of Rp 400 million. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 6 months.

Edhy's sentence at the court of first instance was 5 years.

The court also required the former Gerindra cadre to pay a replacement of Rp 9.7 billion and US$77,000. This must be paid within a month after the court's decision.

If not paid, his property will be confiscated and auctioned by the prosecutor. If the property is not enough, it will be replaced with imprisonment for another 3 years.

In addition, the court also imposed an additional penalty in the form of revocation of the right to be elected in public office for three years after Edhy finished serving the main sentence. (tan/mcr20/jpnn)
