That should serve as a warning to other regions, World Health Organization (WHO) officials said on Thursday.

WHO emergency affairs director Mike Ryan said some European countries had "suboptimal vaccination coverage".
"It's a warning shot for the world to see what is happening in Europe despite availability of vaccination," Ryan told a news conference.

Several European countries have reported increases, even spikes, of daily Covid-19 cases.
Daily cases of Covid-19 in Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, and Slovakia hit record highs.

Daily deaths from Covid-19 in Russia hit a record, while total cases in Ukraine crossed 3 million and daily cases in Poland hit 15,000 for the first time since April.
Meanwhile, the number of hospitalized cases of Covid-19 in Belgium rose again to the level of lockdown in October 2020.
New cases of Covid-19 in Austria jumped to near a record last year, opening up the possibility of a lockdown for people who have not been vaccinated as the government tries to convince the public to accept the injections. (ant/dil/mcr20/jpnn)
