Mount Semeru Eruption Kills Nearly 40 Percent of Livestock

jpnn.com, JAWA TIMUR - Dozens of residents in Sumbermujur village, Candipuro district, Lumajang regency, East Java, are trying to save livestock that are still alive after the eruption of Mount Semeru.

On Saturday (4/12), the brunt of the hot clouds of Mount Semeru killed so many livestock belonging to the residents.

Nearly 40 percent of the livestock belonging to the residents in the village were roasted to death.

Aan (40), a resident of Sumbermujur, said he was lucky because some of his livestock were still safe.

"Some of my goats are still alive, and some are dead," he said, Sunday (5/12), adding that eight of his 15 goats were still alive.

According to him, the live goats were saved because they were caged at the top and not directly exposed to the hot clouds of Mount Semeru.

Bud'at (50), another local resident who owned cows, said his condition was not much different.

"The big cows are still alive, but many of the small ones have died," he said. (mcr26/mcr20/jpnn)
